Bolton Women’s 1’s faced the daunting task of taking on table toppers, Timperley Women’s 2’s. Goals have been a real struggle for the Women’s 1’s this season, and despite a better return in recent times they’d still only scored 7 all season. It didn’t start well as Timperley took an early lead, they recycled a penalty corner well, keeping the chance alive before finishing it off.
A slow first half finished that way, despite constant Timperley pressure and a series of Penalty Corners, Bolton kept it to just a single goal.
The first was nothing compared to the fireworks of the second half. Timperley extended their lead shortly after the break. Some nice movement across the top of the D saw a chance created, the shot taking a wicked deflection, wrong-footing the keeper and going into the other corner.
If Timperley thought the bottom side would be a push over, they were sorely mistaken. Two minutes later Bolton were back in it. A penalty corner of their own and Lu Bull scoring a magnificent drag flick.
A shaken Timperley were soon rocked, as Bolton had an equaliser. Another penalty corner, another well worked manoeuvre finished by Emily Wilkes. With just under 15 minutes there was a shock on the cards?
Both teams pushed, earning opportunities and set plays but neither getting that final killer touch. When it looked destined for a draw, Timperley broke Bolton hearts with a last-minute winner. An echo of the first, a penalty corner kept alive and finished off. A great effort against the league leaders, Erin Turner the pick of the bunch with a great display in midfield.
